General Product Questions
What handcrafted means and what customers may notice.
Why can handcrafted products vary between batches?
Small differences in color, shape, weight, texture, botanical appearance, scent intensity, frosting, or surface character can occur in small-batch products. These variations are generally cosmetic when the product remains safe and performs as intended.
Does a longer ingredient list mean a better product?
No. Performance depends on ingredient purpose, concentration, balance, processing, and the finished formula—not the number of ingredients or how prominently one trendy ingredient is advertised.
Why can the same scent differ across products or people?
Wax, soap, water-based formulas, oils, heat, room airflow, application amount, and individual skin chemistry all change how fragrance develops. A scent can reasonably smell different in a candle, lotion, soap, or on two people.
How do I know whether a change is normal?
Temperature-related firmness, natural-wax frosting, bar surface moisture, or modest batch variation may be normal. Stop using a product and contact us for unexpected mold, gas, package swelling, leaking, a clearly unusual odor, or another material change that concerns you. See our Product Care guide.
Ingredients & Standards
How we source, formulate, preserve, and communicate.
Are your products cruelty-free?
Yes. The Apawthecary Co. is certified cruelty-free through Leaping Bunny.
Where are products made and sourced?
Our handcrafted products are made in the United States using U.S.-based suppliers, with organic herbs selected when available and appropriate. Third-party apparel is supplied through U.S.-based companies, but component origin or final assembly may vary.
Are all products vegan?
No. We offer vegan options, but formulas containing beeswax, honey, lanolin, egg, broth, or another animal-derived ingredient are not vegan. Check the individual ingredient label.
Do you use fragrance oils and essential oils?
Yes, depending on the product. We select the appropriate fragrance oil, essential oil, or blend for the intended format and follow applicable IFRA usage limits for fragranced products. Essential oils are not automatically safer or more appropriate for every customer.
Why do water-based products contain preservatives?
Water supports microbial growth. An appropriate cosmetic preservative helps protect lotions and other water-based formulas from bacteria, yeast, and mold during normal shelf life and use. Do not add water or other ingredients to a finished container.
Where can I find every ingredient and allergen?
Review the full ingredient label on the product and its current product page before purchase and use. Customers with allergies or sensitivities should not rely on category-wide assumptions; formulas differ.
Body Care & Skincare
Texture, sensitivity, storage, and responsible use.
Are products suitable for sensitive skin?
Sensitivities are individual, so no formula can be guaranteed for everyone. Review the ingredient label and patch test a new product on a small area of intact skin before broader use. Stop for irritation.
Why do some formulas feel lighter or richer?
Oils, butters, waxes, emulsifiers, humectants, water, and structural ingredients are balanced for different jobs. A lotion, hand-and-foot cream, body oil, balm, butter, scrub, and lip product should not all feel the same.
What if a balm or butter softens during warm weather?
Set the closed product upright in a cool indoor location and let it return naturally to room temperature. Many balms, salves, lotion bars, and lip products remain usable after resolidifying, though appearance may change. Whipped body butter may permanently lose its whipped texture after melting.
How should I use the dry clay mask?
Mix only the amount needed with water in a clean, dry, nonreactive dish. Use the hydrated mask immediately and discard any remainder. Never add water to the original dry container or store a mixed mask.
Do herbal body products treat medical conditions?
No. Cosmetic and personal-care products support ordinary care and comfort as described on their labels; they are not drugs and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease. Seek appropriate medical care for health concerns.
Soap, Shampoo Bars & Bath Products
Simple care for finished cleansing and bath formats.
How can I make a soap or shampoo bar last longer?
Keep it out of standing water and direct shower spray. Use a well-draining dish or rack and allow every side to dry fully between uses. Store unused bars cool and dry with airflow.
Why can a bar develop moisture on its surface?
Some finished bars attract moisture in humid conditions. Move the bar to a drier, ventilated location. Light surface moisture or “dew” can be cosmetic and does not automatically indicate a defect.
How should bath tea be used?
Use the supplied tea bag or pouch as directed to contain botanicals. Store completely dry until use, use caution because bath ingredients may make the tub slippery, and rinse the tub afterward.
Can bath products mark a tub?
Oils, clays, colorants, and botanicals may leave residue or temporarily mark porous, damaged, or unsealed surfaces. Rinse promptly and test first when concerned.
Herbal Tea
Packaging, caffeine, preparation, and safe storage.
How many tea bags are in a pouch?
Each package contains 20 individually sealed tea bags inside the outer package pouch.
Do your current teas contain caffeine?
No. All current Apawthecary herbal tea blends are caffeine-free.
Are the teas dietary supplements or medicines?
No. They are conventional herbal beverages intended for ordinary preparation and enjoyment. Product names and traditional ingredient context do not mean a tea diagnoses, treats, cures, or prevents disease.
How should tea be brewed?
Follow the individual package directions because steeping can vary by blend. Use clean potable water and keep the cup covered while steeping when directed.
How should dry tea be stored?
Keep individually sealed bags inside the outer pouch at room temperature, protected from moisture, humidity, sunlight, heat, pests, and strong odors. Follow any best-by or storage information on the label.
Can brewed tea be refrigerated?
Freshly brewed tea is best enjoyed immediately. If preparing ahead, refrigerate promptly in a clean, covered container and consume within three days. Do not leave it at room temperature longer than two hours, and discard sooner for unusual odor, flavor, appearance, bubbling, or other spoilage signs.
Can I drink herbal tea while pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or managing a condition?
Ask an appropriate licensed healthcare professional who knows your circumstances. Herbs can have contraindications and interactions, and “caffeine-free” does not mean appropriate for every person.
Candles & Wax Melts
Wax, scent performance, burn habits, and warm-weather care.
What wax and wick do your current candles use?
Our candles use a coconut-soy wax blend and currently use lead-free cotton wicks. Always follow the warning label on the vessel.
How should I burn a candle?
Trim the cotton wick to about ¼ inch, use a stable heat-resistant surface away from drafts, never leave it unattended, and burn no longer than four hours. Stop use when approximately ½ inch of wax remains.
Why does a candle tunnel or produce soot?
Short early burns can contribute to tunneling; an overly long wick, drafts, debris, or excessive burn time can contribute to soot. Proper trimming and allowing a safe melt pool to approach the edges during early burns supports more even performance.
Why can cold scent and hot throw differ?
Fragrance develops differently when wax is warmed. Room size, ceiling height, airflow, placement, burn time, and scent fatigue also affect what a customer notices.
How do I use wax melts?
Place an appropriate amount in a warmer designed for scented wax, follow the warmer instructions, and never add water. Let wax cool before removal and never pour wax down a drain.
What if a candle arrives materially melted?
Photograph the candle and packaging immediately and email us within two calendar days of the carrier’s delivered status. Material candle-melting claims are reviewed under our Shipping Policy.
Pet Products
A small supportive collection, made primarily with dogs in mind.
Which animals are pet products intended for?
Most are intended primarily for dogs unless the label expressly identifies another species. Never assume a dog product is appropriate for a cat or another animal.
Are your pet products veterinarian reviewed?
No. We formulate and produce them ourselves using ingredient research that includes holistic veterinary literature, but they have not been individually reviewed or endorsed by a veterinarian. They do not replace veterinary diagnosis or care.
How should pet treats be stored?
Store sealed at room temperature unless the label requires refrigeration. Products such as fruit leathers must be refrigerated when directed. Follow every best-by or use-after-opening date; when no date is marked, the product is designed to remain stable for at least three months when stored as directed.
How should topical pet products be used?
Use only on the species, area, and amount stated on the label. Prevent licking until absorbed when applicable, avoid eyes and other sensitive areas, and discontinue for irritation or unusual behavior. Consult a veterinarian about medical conditions, medication, pregnancy, nursing, or reactions.
Can pet products be returned?
They cannot be physically returned because safety and storage conditions cannot be verified for resale. Eligible purchases may qualify for the Love It or Swap It Paw-mise™; exclusions and order-issue remedies are explained in our Returns & Refunds Policy.
Orders, Processing & Shipping
Timelines, carriers, pickup, preorders, and delivery issues.
How long does processing take?
Most stocked products ship within 1–4 business days after payment is accepted. Carrier transit starts after processing. Custom and special-order timelines are disclosed before purchase, and third-party apparel uses its displayed estimate.
What happens when an order includes a preorder?
The product page states when the preorder is expected to be ready and available to ship. A mixed order may be held until every item is ready unless we choose to split it.
Which carriers do you use?
Available live rates may include USPS, UPS, and FedEx. Options depend on the address, package, products, and service availability.
How does free shipping work?
Qualifying U.S. orders receive free economy shipping at $35 or more in eligible merchandise after discounts and before taxes and shipping. Alaska and Hawaii are included. Apparel and subscription orders are excluded unless a specific offer states otherwise.
Do you ship internationally?
No. We currently ship to deliverable addresses within the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.
Is local pickup available?
When local pickup appears at checkout, select it and wait for the pickup-ready email. Do not arrive before receiving that notice and its instructions.
What if tracking says delivered but the package is missing?
Check delivery details, household members, neighbors, mailrooms, and safe locations; contact the carrier immediately; then email info@apawco.com with the order and tracking information. Carrier investigation and remedy rules are in our Shipping Policy.
Returns, Refunds & Paw-mise™
Traditional candle returns, satisfaction swaps, and order issues.
What can be physically returned?
Only eligible, completely unused and unburned candles may be returned for change-of-mind reasons within 21 calendar days of delivery. Contact us first; when approved, we provide the prepaid return label at our expense.
Why are other products not returnable?
Personal-care, food, tea, pet, bath, and hygiene-sensitive products cannot be safely verified and restocked after shipment. Eligible products may instead qualify for the Paw-mise™.
How does the Love It or Swap It Paw-mise™ work?
Request one swap within 21 calendar days of delivery. One request may cover multiple eligible items from the order, no physical return is required, and approved credit must be used in one transaction within 14 calendar days. The customer pays shipping, taxes, fees, and any price difference on the new order.
How much swap credit is issued?
Standard eligible purchases receive 100% of the eligible merchandise price actually paid. An eligible product purchased at 50% or more off its Compare-At price receives 70% of the merchandise price actually paid.
Which purchases are excluded from the Paw-mise™?
Gift cards, apparel, clearance/final-sale products, custom or special orders, and subscription renewals after the eligible first purchase are excluded. See the complete Paw-mise™ page.
What if an item arrives damaged, defective, leaking, melted, or incorrect?
Email info@apawco.com within two calendar days of the carrier’s delivered status. Include the order number and clear photographs of the product, label, outer package, internal packaging, and issue. Keep everything until we provide instructions.
Subscriptions & Promotions
Recurring orders and changing offers.
How much does Subscribe & Save provide?
Eligible subscription products receive 7% savings. Customers may manage eligible dates, skips, pauses, and cancellations through the subscription portal, subject to the 72-hour change cutoff before a scheduled renewal.
Can a subscription purchase qualify for the Paw-mise™?
The first qualifying subscription purchase of a particular product may be eligible. Later recurring shipments are not eligible for return, refund, or swap except for verified damage, a reasonable defect, or a fulfillment error.
What happens when no promotion is running?
Regular pricing and any standing eligible programs—such as free shipping, subscriptions, or first-order offers—continue according to their own terms. A promotion page or banner is not a promise that a limited-time discount is always active.
